Tea Tree Oil

People who suffer from acne know how important it is to find the right acne treatment. Acne is an embarrassing condition that affects almost all teenagers and many adults. It is especially tough for teens to deal with because of the peer pressure the deal with from their friends. Even though it is a condition that usually appears in teens and goes away during adulthood, there can be some lasting effects if left untreated.
Since acne can usually be expected during the teen years many people don’t see the need to treat it properly. They feel that it will go away on its own and in many cases it will. The problem is, you will have to deal with the embarrassment until it does and there is the chance that it will leave permanent scars. For teens this means they may resort to squeezing the pimples just to get rid of them. This is one of the worst things they can do because they run the risk of developing an infection.
The best treatment for acne is one that is all natural. Tea tree oil is a natural product that is great for the treatment of acne. The oil itself comes from a plant that is grown in Australia. It is extracted with steam from the leaves of the plant. You can find it in many of your health food stores in many different products such as lotion, shampoo, and cream. It contains a substance known as terpinen-4-ol that is believed to kill bacteria. More importantly, tea tree oil is believed to kill the type of bacteria that cause acne.
Another popular treatment for acne is benzoyl peroxide. This ingredient is found in many different types of acne treatment. For the most part it is effective in drying up the acne but it can have some adverse effects such as too much drying of the skin. When too much oil is taken out of the skin it can cause premature aging and wrinkles. When this occurs it is more difficult to deal with than acne.
There has not been a wide study of tea tree oil and its effectiveness on acne but one study was conducted in Australia that showed a reduction in inflammation when tea tree oil was used. The study also showed that those who used benzoyl peroxide saw a reduction in inflammation but those subjects experienced other side effects such as itching, dryness, and burning. The subjects who used the tea tree oil did not experience any adverse side effects.
Initially the use of tea tree oil may be slower to produce results but because it is a natural product it is considered to be much safer than some of the other manufactured products. Anytime that you can stay with natural treatments your health will be better in the long run. Natural is better for your skin and it is better for the environment because it is taken from the environment.
Since tea tree oil is all natural you won’t find it in your everyday store. There are places on the Internet where you can find high quality tea tree oil that can be shipped to your door. Once you have tried it you will never go back to the more traditional treatments.
